Koret Parking (2130 Fulton Street) is reserved for the attendants of the WiDS-USF event.

There are two entrances - one on Parker, an immediate right turn after reaching the 2130 Fulton address (the church). There is also a lower parking level entrance on Turk Street. Guests will be able to use both upper and lower levels.

EVENT DESCRIPTION

The Women in Data Science (WiDS) Conference organized at the Stanford University, aims to inspire and educate data scientists, regardless of gender, and support women in the field.

​This one-day technical conference provides an opportunity to hear about the latest data science related research in a number of domains, learn how leading-edge companies are leveraging data science for success, and connect with potential mentors, collaborators, and others in the field.

The second WiDS Conference will be held on February 3, 2017 at Stanford University.
Currently, all general and student registrations are sold out.

At USF we have set up a regional event that will stream the Women in Data Science (WiDS) Conference on February 10. From our region, we will be supporting women in the area who are currently in the field, and inspiring other women to become data scientists. This event is open to the public.

Through this event, we want to especially inspire new students into data career paths and instill into their horizons that "Data is leading the future".

At the heart of Silicon Valley, data is changing the lives of people more than anywhere in the world; from enabling personalization in buying products or having coffee! to predicting the probability of suffering from the Parkinson disease in the future.
However, the value of being in a data career path, may still seem too vague or unapproachable to new students, no matter how much they may read and study about data.

In the CS department in USF, at the heart of San Francisco, we value the future of data. Through data courses connected with real world projects, we aim to help students experience how data contributes to big steps.

But most important, we want to give the opportunity to students, and encourage female students, too, to see the value of working with data, get inspired by it and engage individually into:

a) the why: identifying value hidden behind data, and

b) the how: learning how to extract the value out of the data!

At the WiDS conference the students will have the opportunity to watch live examples of strong female profiles, who share their experience about what data has achieved across several fields, such as medical, finance, marketplaces, real estate. The speakers bring the perspectives of several types of careers in data, such as the industry, academia and the startup world, and through several roles, such as product leadership, engineering, science, and education.
